About
About the Wingaersheek Improvement Association, Inc. (“WIA”)
WIA is a community of members located in the private section of Wingaersheek known as Coffin’s Beach. Our historical role since 1950 has been to build community, serve as the stewards of our unique and natural resource, and protect our membership and private beach community.
WIA is a voluntary association. WIA charges a modest amount of dues from each resident which is used to cover the cost of the security detail at the gate for the summer, the maintenance and repair of the common roads, the removal of snow in the winter from the common roads, and the upkeep of the brush along the common roads, among other things, which benefits each and every resident of this private beach community.
Our roads are private and our beach is private, therefore the City of Gloucester is not responsible for maintaining the roads and common use areas, the residents are. Further, it is to the benefit of every resident maintaining property insurance to ensure that police, fire and other safety vehicles can reach those properties in the event of an emergency. Heavy storms have downed trees, clogged drainage pipes along the road, and piled snow and ice on the roads over the course of the year. WIA dues pay for contractors to address these issues promptly including in the winter when a number of residents are away. We appreciate the support of our members and encourage all residents to participate.
