Beach Rules

Wingaersheek Improvement Association, Inc. Rules

These rules and regulations apply to members, their families, guests and to renters. They are necessary for the protection and the enjoyment of the property of the Association and its members.
Homeowners: Please ensure that all guests and renters are aware of and abide by these rules and regulations:

1. If an item of value is lost, you can post a note on the bulleting board at the guard shack with a contact number or contact one of the officers in your section to arrange to have the item posted on the web.
2. Our beach community is divided into sections. To ensure that each section has room for its members and their guests, please endeavor to set up your umbrellas and chairs in your section of the beach.
3. Please observe speed limits at all times in every section of the WIA for the safety of our members.
4. Parking is not permitted along the roads – illegally parked cars will be towed at the owner’s expense.
5. Unregistered motor vehicles are not allowed on the roadways. Massachusetts law prohibits unlicensed drivers from driving golf carts
6. Motor vehicles and ATVs are not allowed on the beach other than for launching or picking up boats.
7. Watercraft must comply with applicable rules for launch, operation and mooring, including section rules.
8. Walking or playing on the dunes by dogs or humans is prohibited. Coastal dunes are environmentally protected and provide critical aid in storm damage prevention and flood control.
9. Our beach has a carry in/carry out policy. Littering is strictly prohibited. No glass containers, please.
10. Trash collection is performed by the City of Gloucester. Trash must be placed in city-issued plastic bags which can be purchased in stores. Recycling is picked up on trash day (Tuesday) and must be placed in city-issued bins. Please secure your trash properly.
11. Each section has its own rules regarding beach fires. Three sections (Bayle, Hawks and Sandy Way) have NO fire rules. In sections that allow fires, they must be cooking fires and require permission.
12. For the benefit of your neighbors, and the protection of our wildlife, please make an effort to limit loud noises in the early morning and late evening hours. Please also turn off flood lights at a reasonable hour.
13. Each section has rules about Dogs on the beach. In general, dogs are prohibited on the beach between 9am and 6pm. Dogs must be under the control of the owner or keeper at all times and secured by a leash. Owners must clean up after their dogs and dispose of waste in an appropriate waste container.
14. Hunting is strictly prohibited at all times.
15. Fireworks and possession of fireworks is illegal in Massachusetts.
16. Trespassers will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
